TRAILER Salute
Check out the trailer below for Salute, which is showing in cinemas from 13th July 2012 and is available on DVD and download from 30th July.
Country of Production: Australia
At the 1968 Mexico Olympics, American 200m runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos stood on the medal podium and raised their fists in a Black Power salute against the inequality and poverty of black Americans. Also standing there was white Australian Peter Norman, who wore a human rights badge to show his solidarity with their plight.
The fallout of the simple gesture was enormous, destroying the careers of all three and becoming an enduring symbol of the Civil Rights struggle.
