World Cinema Title Receives 10 Oscar Nominations
Nominations for the 84th Academy Awards have been announced, and unsurprisingly French silent movie The Artist has received numerous nominations, with lead Jean Dujardin up for Performance By An Actor In A Leading Role, Michel Hazanavicius nominated in the Director category, whilst the film will battle it out for the much coveted Best Motion Picture Of The Year. The film has a total of 10 nominations (only bettered this year by Martin Scorsese’s Hugo).
Bullhead (Belgium), Footnote (Israel), In Darkness (Poland), Monsieur Lazhar (Canada) and A Separation (Iran) will contest the Best Foreign Language Film Of The Year award, but world cinema is well represented in a number of categories – Chico & Rita nominated for Best Animated Feature Film Of The Year; Pina amongst the films in the Best Documentary Feature category; and A Separation receiving a second nomination for Original Screenplay.
The Oscars ceremony will be held on Sunday, 26th February 2012.
