Second Collection Of Inspector Montalbano Comes To DVD
Acorn Media have announced that a second collection of acclaimed Italian detective drama series Inspector Montalbano is to be released as a 3-disc DVD set on 3rd September 2012.
A Mediterranean counterpoint to the dark drama of recent Scandinavian detective series, Inspector Montalbano is rich with food, sea and sun, not to mention the devilishly handsome inspector himself. Based on the bestselling novels of Andrea Camilleri, the series stars Luca Zingaretti as the eponymous lead who spends every day immersed in a world of murder, betrayal and politics as he navigates Italy’s precarious criminal justice system.
Whether coming up against the political wrangling of his superiors, the ruthlessness of criminals petty and not so much, or the less than subtle influences of the mafia, Montalbano faces them all down with a mixture of tenacity, compassion and dry humour.
In this collection Montalbano takes on six new cases and a variety of temptations, some of them seductive fellow officers and some of them the delights of Italian cooking. Whereas all four episodes of the first collection were based on Camilleri’s novels, this time only two of them are: Excursion To Tindari and The Scent Of The Night. The remaining four – The Artist’s Touch, Montalbano’s Croquettes, The Sense Of Touch and The Cat And The Goldfinch – are all original teleplays written for the series.
