Orlando Comes To Blu-Ray
Artificial Eye have announced that Oscar-nominated, gender-bending satirical drama Orlando is to be released for the first time on Blu-ray on 6th August 2012.

“She’s lived for 400 years and hardly aged a day, but because this is England everyone pretends not to notice.”
Young English nobleman Orlando (Tilda Swinton) is granted land and a castle by Queen Elizabeth I on the condition that he obeys her command to never age, thus preserving his youth and beauty for the future. Agreeing to her decree and subsequently becoming effectively immortal, Orlando spends two centuries in contemplative isolation before travelling across the world – becoming a woman in the process – and is taken through love, loss, motherhood and war before arriving in the present day.
Orlando is based on Virginia Woolf’s novel of the same name, remaining true to Woolf’s literary wit while streamlining the story into a cinematic tale and adding choice excerpts of poetry – as well as Othello’s dying soliloquy – underscoring Orlando’s passion for the written word.
A co-production between five nations that features an stellar international cast – most notably the “Queen of Queens” Quentin Crisp as the aging Queen Elizabeth I – Orlando is a humorous and intelligent study of the complexities of gender politics.
