Film4 FrightFest 2012, the UK’s foremost fantasy and horror film festival, has announced its opening and closing night films for this year’s festival in August.

The Seasoning House, directed by British horror veteran Paul Hyett, is set to kick-start the festival on Thursday 23rd. Described by Hyett as “a cross between Martyrs, Pan’s Labyrinth and Die Hard,” the film follows a brutal tale of sex and exploitation in an unnamed, war-torn Eastern European country, and is Hyett’s much-anticipated debut feature, after a career as a prosthetic makeup effects designer.

Another British feature, Tower Block, is scheduled for the closing night of the festival on Monday 27th. Directed by James Nunn and Ronnie Thompson and written by James Moran of Doctor Who and Torchwood fame, Tower Block features a promising cast of British talent that includes Sheridan Smith, Russell Tovey, Jack O’Connell and Ralph Brown. Centred around an unsolved murder that comes back to haunt the residents of Tower Block 31, the film’s showing at the closing night of the festival will mark its world premiere.

This year’s line-up will also include the British premiere of [•REC]³: Genesis, the third instalment of the successful Spanish horror series, an addition to the festival programme which will no doubt please genre fans all over the UK.

The full programme for the Film4 FrightFest 2012 will be announced at 2pm on 29th June. More details and updates on this year’s festival can be found on the official site.
