DVD Release: Ajami
Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani co-direct this Israeli drama.
Named after the district of Tel Aviv in which it is set, the film paints a portrait of a poor neighbourhood on the periphery of a metropolis where Arabs, Palestinians, Christians and Jews live alongside one another in a melting pot that all too often boils over into violence and murder.
Five overlapping narratives depict events in the lives of several of the neighbourhood’s residents as they struggle to get by in an atmosphere of prejudice and fear.
